May is a busy month here at The Centers. It's National Mental Health Awareness month, so we are busy working with our programs and clients per normal, but also spending time trying to raise awareness of mental wellness. The key to removing the stigma which often surrounds the topic of mental illness is education. Did you know that one in four families has a relative who suffers from mental illness? Did you know that approximately 20% of children aged 13-18 experience severe mental disorders in a given year? Do you realize that mental illness is just like any other illness? You may not be able to prevent it from happening to you, but you can learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of emotional and behavioral disorders, and learn where you can get help.
